Privacy Policy
Last updated: 17 June 2026
This Privacy Policy explains how Labour Recruitment Specialists CC (Registration No. CK1993/000255/23) ("we", "us", "our") collects, uses, shares and protects your personal information when you use our website and candidate platform (the "Platform"). We process personal information in accordance with the Protection of Personal Information Act, 2013 (POPIA). See also our dedicated POPIA notice.
1. Who is responsible for your information
Labour Recruitment Specialists CC is the responsible party. Our Information Officer can be contacted at info@labourrecruitment.co.za.
2. Information we collect
- Account details: name, email address, phone number, password and date of birth.
- Profile information: the position you are seeking, professional summary, work experience, education, skills, languages, years and months of experience, desired salary and availability.
- Documents: your CV and any supporting documents you choose to upload (for example identity documents, a driver's licence, or certificates).
- Location: your preferred work location (province and place), which we look up using a third-party mapping service.
- Demographic information (optional): gender and race. These are only collected if you choose to provide them and consent to it (see clause 4).
- Technical information: limited data needed to operate the site securely, such as your IP address for rate-limiting and a session cookie to keep you logged in (see our Cookie Policy).
3. Why we use your information
- to create and manage your account;
- to build your candidate profile and match you with potential employers;
- to present your professional profile to registered employers where you have set it to Public;
- to communicate with you about your profile, opportunities and account (including reminders to keep your profile up to date);
- to operate, secure and improve the Platform; and
- to comply with our legal obligations.
4. Consent and special personal information
We rely on your consent to process your profile information for recruitment purposes, and you may withdraw that consent at any time by editing your profile or closing your account. Information about your race is "special personal information" under POPIA. We only collect it where you actively choose to provide it and consent to its use, and we use it solely for lawful purposes such as Employment Equity and B-BBEE reporting. Providing gender and race is entirely optional, and leaving them blank will not affect your ability to use the Platform.
5. When we share your information
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share your personal contact details with employers through the Platform. Your professional profile is made visible to registered employers and recruiters only when you set your profile to Public; introductions are then facilitated by us. We also use trusted service providers who process information on our behalf and only on our instructions, namely:
- our website and database hosting provider;
- an email/automation service used to send transactional emails (such as verification, password reset and profile reminders); and
- a mapping service used to look up location names (it only receives the location text you search).
We may also disclose information where required by law or to protect our legal rights.
6. How we protect your information
We use reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect your information, including encrypted connections, access controls, secure password storage, rate-limiting, and serving uploaded documents only through authenticated, access-controlled requests. No system is completely secure, but we take protection seriously.
7. How long we keep your information
We keep your information for as long as your account is active. If your account is inactive for 12 months it may be marked dormant and hidden from employers. If you request deletion of your account, your personal information and uploaded documents are permanently deleted shortly afterwards (currently within 7 days), except where we are required to retain certain records by law.
8. Your rights under POPIA
You have the right to:
- access the personal information we hold about you;
- request correction or updating of your information (you can edit most of it directly in your profile);
- request deletion of your account and information;
- object to or withdraw consent to processing; and
- lodge a complaint with the Information Regulator.
To exercise these rights, contact our Information Officer at info@labourrecruitment.co.za.
9. Cross-border processing
Some of our service providers (such as our mapping and email providers) may process information on servers outside South Africa. Where this happens, we take reasonable steps to ensure your information continues to receive an adequate level of protection.
10. Cookies
We use only strictly-necessary cookies to keep you logged in. We do not use advertising or third-party tracking cookies. See our Cookie Policy for detail.
11. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. The "Last updated" date above reflects the latest version.
